THERE'S NO FIXED FORMULA FOR A SUCCESSFUL FILM, SAYS RAJ KUMAR HIRANI IN ONLINE INTERACTION WITH FTII
One of FTII's most accomplished film maker alumni Raj Kumar Hirani today held a spell-binding online discussion anchored by Shekhar Kapur, Chairman FTII with students and faculty. Prof. Mazhar Kamran from IIT Bombay who is FTII alumnus was present as special invitee.
In a two-hour lively interaction Sh Hirani spoke about his early days as a student in FTII, his struggles in the film industry, his directorial style and interesting anecdotes about his landmark films MUNNABHAI MBBS and 3 IDIOTS.
Answering a range of questions, he said to him it's important not to tell the obvious in a scene but rather let it speak for itself. Talking of the runaway success of all his 5 films, he said there is no formula for a successful film. Cinema is a creative area and sets its own rules of success. His own style is to spend months, he said, writing a story and tossing ideas back-and-forth with his writing partner Abhijat Joshi.
