Administrative Structure
The FTII functions as an autonomous body under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, and is registered under the Societies’ Registration Act of 1860. The FTII Society is headed by a President who is a well-known personality from film and television, arts or academics.
The Governing Council (GC) is constituted by election from among the members of the Society and is responsible for all major policy decisions. It appoints the Academic Council (AC) and the Standing Finance Committee (SFC), which advise the FTII on academic and financial matters. The President also serves as Chairman of the GC, AC, and SFC.
Eminent past Chairmen include Mr. Shyam Benegal, Mr. Mrinal Sen, Mr. Adoor Gopalakrishnan, Mr. Mahesh Bhatt, Mr. Girish Karnad, Mr. Vinod Khanna, Prof. U.R. Ananthamurthy, Mr. Saeed Mirza, Mr. Gajendra Chauhan, Mr. Anupam Kher, Mr. B.P. Singh, and Mr. Shekhar Kapur.
The Director of the Institute serves as its Executive Head and implements its policies and programmes. Shri. Dhiraj Singh is currently the Director of the FTII.
